No plan to look at “ringgit float” – Malaysia Minister

Posted on: April 15, 2009

Reuters – Monday, April 13

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, Apr 13 – Malaysia has no plans to re-examine the country’s managed float of its ringgit currency, one of the country’s top finance officials said on Monday.

“The ringgit managed float mechanism is well in place to protect from fluctuations and I see no reason for us to re-look at this at the moment,” Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, who became the country’s new Second Finance Minister last week, told a press conference.

Husni was appointed to the post by new Prime Minister Najib Razak and is the most senior official in charge of running economic affairs on a day-to-day basis.
